Mark Pettis began his ministry at Manhattan Beach Community Church on August 15, 2013. Prior to joining us, he served as the Senior Minister of the First Congregational Church of Christ, Moorhead, MN. Mark currently serves as one of the United Church of Christ representatives to the National Council of Churches Interreligious Table. He also serves on the Jewish-Christian Dialogue Taskforce cosponsored by the National Council of Synagogues and National Council of Churches.
Mark was born in New Hampshire and grew up in San Diego, CA. He graduated from Pomona College with a B.A. in Politics and Lexington Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree. Prior to entering divinity school Mark served as the Coordinator of Community Resource Development for the Grossmont Union High School District. He has also served as a volunteer at Pilgrim Pines Camp and Conference Center.
Mark is married to Elena Larssen, who is also an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. She currently serves as the Senior Minister of the First Congregational Church of Long Beach and began her service there at the same time Mark began his service with us. In the summer of 2014, Elena and Mark welcomed their son, Thomas. They also are the happy owners of a basset hound, Clyde, the Wonder Dog.
